House Portraits Dossier:
Flayosc Interiors, Var
The funny thing is that for a couple of wonderful days spent here in this spaceous and easy-going home, my eye was taken by the interior more than the garden; especially the main room, formerly the powerhouse of an olive-mill and now a big sitting room with, at the far end, a smallish doorway to the hosts' quarters - a doorway that reminded me ever so much of the little down-stepped door & silhouette in the Velasquez Las Meninas!
In an interplay of shape outlines I have tried to capture the calm of the scale of this fine tall long room.
Alert!
Three large Imperial-sized charcoal sketches [c.21" by 31"] — similar to the smaller ones illustrated here — have been stolen. Please let me know if you come across them!!
